PLEASE NOTE: There is both a fully guided option and a self drive option - accommodation is mostly camping on this safari tour. Day 1: Windhoek / Kalahari Desert, NamibiaDepart from Windhoek and head south to Rehoboth and then on to Mariental to the Kalahari Game Reserve for the first night. This is truly a beautiful place to spend the first evening.
Guided & self-drive: Overnight at Auob Lodge / or Anib Lodge. Breakfast and Dinner is included. |
Day 2: Quiver Tree Forest / Fish River Canyon, NamibiaHead south to the Fish River Canyon with a detour to the Quiver Tree Forest, a fascinating place where there is a 'forest' of the beautiful Aloe Dichitoma 'trees'. This area, a semi-desert, offers extremely harsh but beautiful views of barren landscapes and mountains. If time permits during your Namibia safari, a late afternoon view of the Fish River Canyon is planned.
Guided: Accommodation at Hobas campsite - all meals included. Camp food is prepared on the fire and is all freshly made. Day 3: Namib Desert / Desert Horses, NamibiaEarly morning rise to the Fish River Canyon view point from where you will head west to the Namib Desert, past Aus to Klein Aus Vista. The afternoon is set aside for a hike in this beautiful area with a possibility of seeing the desert Horses of the Namib Desert.

Day 4: Luderitz / Kolmanskop 'Ghost Town' / Diaz Point, NamibiaThis day is set aside for a full day excursion to the coastal town of Luderitz where activities will include Diaz Point as well as a visit to the desert 'ghost' town of Kolmanskop. Return to Klein Aus Vista late afternoon, looking for the desert Horses along the way.

Day 5: Namib Desert / Namib Naukluft Park, NamibiaThe road today is stunning with amazing desert scenery whilst heading north along the eastern edge of the Namib Naukluft Park to arrive in the Sesriem area late afternoon. You will be accommodated at the campsites at Sesriem, which are built around a tree with a low wall surrounding the campsite. Even though the campsite might be full, one always gets the feeling of being away from it all! Day 6: Sossusvlei / Dune 45 / Dead Pan / Sesriem Gorge, NamibiaEarly morning rise to drive to the beautiful Sossusvlei area where some of the highest dunes in the world are found. Most of the morning will be spent here on dune climbing, photography, visit Dead Pan, Dune 45 and to enjoy the marvellous scenery. Return for lunch with an afternoon visit to the enchanting Sesriem Gorge. Day 7: Kuiseb Canyon / Namib Gravel Plains / Skeleton CoastToday you will travel north to the small town of Solitaire and then west to enter the Namib Naukluft Park close to the Kuiseb Canyon, a dry riverbed that comes to life after the rains.
From the Kuiseb, drive over the Namib gravel plains to see the interesting Welwitschia mirabillis 'trees' and the Moonlandscape before arriving at Swakopmund, a coastal town situated at the mouth of the Swakop River and on the Skeleton Coast.

Day 8: Walvis Bay / Flamingoes, NamibiaThe morning is set aside for an excursion to the harbour town of Walvis Bay to visit the lagoon, home to hundreds of lesser and greater Flamingoes, Pelicans, Egrets and Storks as well as a wide variety of other bird species.
The afternoon is free to spend in Swakopmund with optional activities such as: Skeleton Coast flights, boat cruise in the Walvis Bay harbour and surroundings, dune 4x4 biking, visits to local interests such as the Crystal Gallery, Karakulia weavers, tannery curio shops, etc. Guided & self-drive: Accommodation will be at the Europahof Hotel. Breakfast is included. |
Day 9: Cape Cross / Seals / Damaraland, NamibiaHead north along the Skeleton Coast to Henties Bay and then on to visit the breeding colony of over 100 000 Cape Fur Seals at Cape Cross. From here you will head inland over wide plains to Uis, a small derelict tin mine before travelling north through Damaraland.
The scenery changes today from coastal desert to plains ending in the afternoon in granite hills and outcrops. Camp Xaragu offers you campsites and en-suite chalets with hot showers and stunning scenery. They also offer optional extra activities such as horse-riding, game drives, swimming, hikes and have a variety of tame animals on location. Day 10 & 11: Palmwag / Etendeka Mountains, NamibiaTravel further north through the mountains to the Palmwag Concession during your Namibia safari. A full day is set aside to spend in this semi-desert area where there is a possiblity to see desert adapted Elephants such as Springbok, Giraffe, Oryx as well as the elusive mountain Zebra.
Guided safaris will go on a game drive in the concession area whereas self-drive clients would need to arrange for a game drive with the lodge management. Day 12: Himba Tribes / Opuwo, NamibiaToday you will head north to the frontier town of Opuwo, a Herero word meaning 'all finished' or 'no more'! This afternoon you will visit a few traditional Himba / Dzimba villages where these ethnic tribes still live in traditional ways of tending their cattle and goats. Day 13: Hobatere, West Etosha, NamibiaThis is quite a long day on your Namibia Safari Tour, you head back to Opuwo and then the western edge of the Etosha National Park. Not the most interesting drive today but its great to arrive in the Etosha area!

Days 14 - 16: Etosha National Park, NamibiaYou will enter Etosha at the western Otjivasando gate, which is closed to the public (a special permit will be obtained for this area - self drive groups cannot enter at this gate) and head east to Okaukuejo. Along the way, you will stop over at numerous waterholes for game viewing.
Enjoy the floodlit waterholes at Okaukuejo where there is an excellent chance to see the Black Rhino drinking at night. These days will be spent in Etosha on morning and afternoon game drives and visiting numerous waterholes. A visit to the Etosha National Park is one of the highlights of traveling Namibia. Be it a lion or an elephant, a giraffe or a zebra, almost all African animal species are represented in the huge nature reserve, approx. 22 000 square kilometers in size. The lodge is situated on the banks of the dry Okakango River. Enjoy the sights and sounds of abundant bird life in the area. Breakfast and Dinner is included. |
Day 18: Windhoek, NamibiaAfter breakfast, head south to Okahandja to visit the woodcarvers market before heading on to Windhoek where this Namibia safari will end. |
