  • What can you expect from this 5 day Canyon Fish Eagle Trail - Namibia Camping and Hiking Trail 

    Discover the amazing Fish River Canyon with this Namibia hiking trail. Enjoy beautiful views form the high plateau boasting panoramic views. Explore narrow gorges and natural springs or cool off and fish in the water pools.

    While hiking in Namibia, you will get the opportunity to cool off in the deep water pools or fish for Fish River carp. Stop for scenic picnics along the way and see ancient rock art made by Namibia's original inhabitants.

    You will be able to learn more about the plant and animal world of the Nama Karoo Desert. During your Namibia hiking trail, you'll get the opportunity to sleep under the African sky or in a tent.

    Please note: The Canyon Klippringer Trail is only available to groups of a minimum of 4. The trails are run on request. Children 12 years and older are welcome.

    Day 1: Arrival and introduction, Gondwana Canon Park, Namibia

    You will arrive by your own arrangement at the Gondwana Canon Park situated at the famous Fish River Canyon. Guests can arrange for a transfer from Windhoek. Guests will be able to stop for lunch on the way.

    During the evening you will learn more about this Namibia camping and hiking trail and familiarise yourself with the equipment. After dinner, you will enjoy a good night's sleep at Gondwana Canon Park.

    Day 2: Mule trekking, Augurabis Gorge Camp, Namibia

    After breakfast you will be transferred to the Canon Roadhouse which is the start of this Namibia hiking trail. The equipment will be loaded onto the mules before starting on the slight hill past quiver trees.

    You will reach a high plateau boasting a breathtaking panoramic view of the canyon. You will continue along a small dry riverbed which digs deeper into the rock until forming a gorge. A delicious lunch will be served in the shade of the gorge.

    In the afternoon you will continue along the gorge before arriving at the camp. Relax and enjoy a drink around the campfire while dinner is prepared by the tour guide. Guests can choose whether they want to spend the night under the starry African sky or a tent.

    Day 3: Mule trekking, Fish River Camp, Namibia

    Enjoy a delicious breakfast before heading out along one of the Fish River's tributaries. You will continue downward past the steep rock faces. After crossing the crystal-clear springs you can stop and enjoy a picnic in the shade. Some of the African wildlife you might spot includes Kudu, Klipspringer and mountain Zebra.

    The area is also home to the African Fish Eagle. The surrounding dolomite rock features abstract rock engravings made by Namibia's original inhabitants thousands of years ago. After lunch, you will continue along the scenic gorge until in widens. This is the Fish River. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be at the Fish River Camp.

    Optional days 6 and 7: Tour with transfer from and to Windhoek, Namibia

    Day 6: Relaxing in Gondwana Canon Park, Namibia

    Today you can relax and recover from your hiking in Namibia. Gondwana Canon Park has much to offer guests. Experience a scenic flight over the Fish River Canyon.

    Alternatively, explore the park on horseback or go on the Sunflower Drive. The drive provides guests with interesting facts about the area, including the adaptability of the local fauna and flora. Return to the lodge for a delicious dinner.

    Day 7: Return to Windhoek, Namibia

    After breakfast you'll be transferred back to Windhoek, Namibia. Enjoy a picnic on your way back. The travel distance from Gondwana Canon Park to Windhoek is 650km (403.89 miles).
