Day 1: Arrival and introduction, Gondwana Canon Park, Namibia
On day one you will arrive at Gondwana Canon Park where you'll be able to meet fellow hikers and learn more about the tour and familiarise yourself with the equipment. Enjoy dinner before heading off to a good night's sleep.
Day 2: Mule trekking, water springs, Namibia
Day 2 starts with breakfast before the mules are loaded. This Namibia hiking trail starts with a gradual hill past quiver trees. You will soon reach the high plateau from which you can enjoy the spectacular scenery over the canyon.
The group will then make their way down a dry river bed. There is a possibility of spotting mountain Zebra, Oryx, Kudu, Klipspringer and Ostrich. This area is also home to the African Fish Eagle and Hamerkop. You will continue along the dry riverbed until it spills into a gorge.
During the afternoon, the group will enter one of the adjoining gorges and follow the river's course. The river is fed by springs. You will spend the night at the one of the springs. You will be able to sleep under the star-studded sky. The distance covered in today's hiking trail in Namibia is about 15 to 20km (9.32 to 12.42 miles). The hike will take about 6 to 7 hours.
Day 3: Mule trekking, Fish River Canyon, Namibia
Day 3 of your Namibia hiking trail finds you continuing through the gorge into the Fish River Canyon and the dry river valley. The river usually only flows after a goof rain fall between January and April. The scenery alternates between pebble fields, sand dunes and slabs of rock.
You will cross large water pools situated in the rock and sand. Stop and enjoy some fishing for Fish River carp or a nice refreshing swim in the water pools. Spend the night at the foot of a tall rock face under the African sky. Today's distance is between 10 to 15 km (6.21 to 9.32 miles). The hike will take between 5 to 6 hours.
Day 4: Mule trekking, up to the rim of the canyon, Namibia
This is the last day of this Namibia camping and hiking trail. You will continue along the course of the river for a short distance before starting the climb up to the canyon's rim. You will be able to stop frequently to enjoy the breathtaking view. The mules will follow the mountain Zebra path to the top.
Once you've reached the top, you will be able to enjoy a well-deserved picnic lunch overlooking the spectacular Fish River Canyon. After lunch, you will cross a plain and be greeted by the driver transferring you back to Gondwana Canon Park. Today's hiking in Namibia covers about 10 to 15 km (6.21 to 9.32 miles). The hike will take about 5 to 6 hours.
